Some 12 million people crossed Iranian border checkpoints last year
Director Transit and Border Terminals of Iran`s Road Maintenance and Transport Organization Mohammad Javad Atrchian said that last Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2014 to March 20, 2015), 12.582 million Iranian and foreign passengers crossed the country`s borders through 23 border checkpoints.
Of that number, over 3.343 million were foreign visitors and tourists; the number coming with 8 percent growth compared to the preceding year, he said, IRNA news agency reported April 28.

On the other side, some 3.174 million Iranians left the country through the checkpoints in the same period, showing 9 percent growth from the preceding year, according to the official.

Atrchian added that the most frequented checkpoints during the period were Mehran with 2.361 million people, Shalamcheh with 1.28 million, Bashmakh with 997,000, Tamarchin with 920,000, and Astara with 783,000.

These checkpoints let through about half of the country`s passengers who travelled by land last year, the official further stated.
