Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the Council Azay Guliyev spoke about the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian armed forces. Guliyev noted that as a result of the occupation of a large number of Azerbaijani cities, including Shusha, the country underwent material and moral damage, its cultural and historical monuments were destroyed.
He said the project is aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage of the ancient Azerbaijani city of Shusha.
“Our main goal is involving foreign non-governmental organizations, media representatives and other cultural figures in a series of activities and promotion to restore justice. I think that international organizations, civil society institutions of foreign countries shouldn’t remain indifferent against the vandalism committed against Shusha – the cultural center of the Caucasus,” he stressed.
Executive Director of Council`s Secretariat Farasat Gurbanov touched on the Karabakh conflict and said he regrets dual approach of the world`s leading countries toward the problem.
NGO leaders from different countries participating in the event expressed their views on the “Freedom to Shusha” campaign.
The meeting was attended by 19 heads of foreign NGOs.
