State Duma ratifies Convention on Legal Status of Caspian Sea

On September 19, the State Duma ratified the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, VestnikKavkaza reports. 

"The Caspian Sea is important from the geopolitical, trade, economic and strategic point of view. It is also a unique ecological system," the speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin said, recalling that the Sea’s ”unique location" unites the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

He labeled the signing of the Convention as a "significant achievement of diplomacy and confirmation of friendly relations" of the participating countries.
