 Azerbaijan welcomes over 3 million tourists in 2019

As many as 3.17 million foreigners and stateless persons from 193 countries arrived in Azerbaijan in 2019, which is 11.3% more compared to a year earlier, AzVision.az reports. 

Among the visitors, 29.4 percent were citizens of Russia, 22.9 percent - Georgia, 10 percent - Turkey, 8.1 percent - Iran, 3.4 percent - Saudi Arabia, 2.2 percent - the UAE, 2.1% - India, 1.9 percent - Ukraine, 1.6 percent – Turkmenistan and Iraq each, 1.5 percent – Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Israel each, 1.2 percent – the UK, 11 percent – other countries and 0.1 – stateless persons.  

Some 66.6 percent of visitors were men and 33.4 percent women.

The biggest increase in visitors was observed among citizens of Turkmenistan (84.2 percent), India (66.8 percent), China (62.4 percent), Egypt (55.6 percent), Malaysia (54.9 percent), Saudi Arabia (46.3 percent), Hungary (33.6 percent), Poland (31.1 percent), Uzbekistan (28.4 percent), Kazakhstan (25.7 percent), the UK (25.5 percent), the Philippines (24.6 percent), Spain (24.2 percent), South Korea (19.9 percent), Germany (19.2 percent) and Georgia (18.8 percent).  

Over the above mentioned period, the number of people who came from EU member states increased by 21.3 percent, amounting to 136,500 people, and the number of people who came from the CIS countries grew by 9.3 percent, amounting to slightly over 1 million people.

Some 58.7 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who visited Azerbaijan used rail and road transport, 40.5 percent – air transport and 0.8 percent – maritime transport.
