Unfortunately, some political forces try to politicize the first European Games in Baku a few days before the start of the major sports event, said the statement.
“Although the idea to hold the European Games was discussed for a long time, the major sports event will take place only this year thanks to the will of the Azerbaijani government. The politicization of sports is wrong, and the use of sports events as a means of political pressure is unacceptable. Such efforts may adversely affect the competition of athletes at the European Games, as well as its goals and results”, said the statement.
According to the statement, the international sports events are an integral part of the civil society, and the host country opens up its society to the world. Besides, the statement urges to put an end to the efforts to politicize the First European Games, and regard it only as a sporting event. Moreover, it stresses that Lunacek always makes some calls on the eve of important international events in Azerbaijan, trying to use them to achieve his political goals.
