Azerbaijan detains bus driver who struck Austrian athletes in Baku
Vali Ahmadov, whose shuttle bus struck Austrian athletes in Baku, was detained, said Azerbaijan
The athletes earlier arrived in the Azerbaijani capital to take part in the Baku 2015 European Games.

An Azerbaijani court ruled to arrest Ahmadov, said the statement.

Ahmadov’s shuttle bus, which is owned by the Bakubus LLC, hit on June 11 the Austrian synchronized swimmers, Vanessa Sahinovic and Luna Pajer.

The incident took place in the transport depot of the Baku 2015 European Games Athletes Village.

The athletes were immediately taken to a hospital, and after receiving the necessary medical aid, they were sent by Azerbaijan to Vienna for their further treatment.

The executives of the Bakubus LLC, who are responsible for hiring highly qualified drivers, failed to carry out their duties properly, and may also be held accountable for the incident, as part of the investigation, said the statement.

A criminal case was launched into the incident under the article 263.1-1 (violation of traffic rules and vehicle operation) of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code.
