"We are taking appropriate steps to prepare for critical situation" - President

"Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in the world where all patients infected with the coronavirus are treated in medical institutions", President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of three modular hospitals on June 9, Azvision.az reports.

"Today is a very significant day. Three modular hospitals are being opened in our country. These hospitals will treat coronavirus infected patients. This is the next important step in the fight against coronavirus", the President said.

"The first modular hospital opened a month ago, on May 7. Currently, the number of these hospitals has reached four. At the opening ceremony held on May 7, I noted that the number of these hospitals should reach 10. I hope that in the near future - by the end of the month, the remaining 6 hospitals will be established. Thus, we will have an additional 2,000 beds, which will further expand our capabilities in the fight against coronavirus."

"It is gratifying that 4 of these 10 hospitals will be built by the private sector at its own expense. I would like to thank the representatives of the private sector and, at the same time, other citizens for their financial support during the coronavirus. As you know, the Coronavirus Support Fund was established on my initiative, and initially, 20 million manat was allocated to this fund from the President's reserve fund. Today, the amount collected in the fund at the expense of entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens has exceeded 100 million manat. This once again shows that our people can unite, show solidarity and unity in difficult times. Therefore, I support the active role of the private sector in this area. Additionally, public organizations, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and entrepreneurs have provided humanitarian assistance to low-income people during this period, and this process continues. However, everyone knows that in this struggle, of course, the main burden falls on the Azerbaijani state. The Azerbaijani government is doing everything possible so that we could get out of this situation with minimal losses."

"All the measures taken are for the health of the citizens of Azerbaijan, and as a result of preventive measures, today the situation is under full control. Over the past 10 days, the number of infected people has increased, because, some citizens showed irresponsibility during the period of softened quarantine regime. Nevertheless, the situation is under full control. We have enough places in hospitals, as well as in intensive care units. At the same time, coronavirus patients will be treated in 10 hospitals with an additional 2,000 beds. So far, there is no need for that. However, we are taking all steps to be ready for the most critical situation, to provide medical care to all patients in the most critical situation."

"I must also say that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in the world where all patients infected with the coronavirus are treated in medical institutions. In many countries, people with asymptomatic illnesses receive treatment at home and are not admitted to hospitals. Of course, this poses a threat to their health. One of the reasons for the low number of deaths from coronavirus in Azerbaijan is that all infected patients are admitted to medical institutions and receive the necessary services."
