The head of the Foundation for Support of the Wounded and Martyrs' Families (YASHAT Foundation) has been appointed, AzVision.az reports.

A relevant order has been signed and Karabakh war veteran Elvin Huseynov was appointed as the head of the Foundation.

On December 8, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the establishment of a foundation to support the families of the wounded and martyrs ("YASHAT" Foundation) who participated in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh war to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity by liberating its lands from the Armenian occupation during the 44-day war which started on September 27 and ended on November 10.

Armenian Armed Forces launched a large-scale military attack on positions of Azerbaijani army on the front line, using large-caliber weapons, mortars and artillery on Sept. 27. Azerbaijan responded with a counter-offensive along the entire front.

On November 10, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement to end six weeks of fierce fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Under the agreement, Russian peacekeepers are being deployed along the front line in Nagorno-Karabakh and the corridor between the region and Armenia.

A total of 1,960 Russian peacekeepers are to be deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh under a five-year mandate.
