The world-famous Azykh and Taghlar caves are located near the village. Tugh village, which had been occupied by the Armenian armed forces on the night of October 30-31, 1991, was liberated by the victorious Azerbaijani Army on November 9, 2020.

Prior to the occupation, Azerbaijanis and a small number of Armenians coexisted in the village. In 1998, Armenian separatists began to commit acts of genocide against Azerbaijanis in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijanis living in Tugh village were also subjected to attacks.

Historical monuments, mosques, cemeteries belonging to Azerbaijanis in the village were completely destroyed by Armenians during the occupation. Thus, before the occupation, there was a cultural center, a music school, a winery, and schools in the village.
Tugh is one of the rare villages in Azerbaijan, distinguished by its antiquity and cultural values.

After the occupation, Armenian vandals tried to falsify Azerbaijani historical monuments. Moreover, the ancient Albanian temples in the village were turned into churches.
