French Technip to provide management services for TAP
France-based Technip has been awarded by the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) Services contract, the company reported on July 21.
The PMC contract will cover the onshore portion of the pipeline from Greece to Albania and in Italy. The services will include the overall project and site management, procurement and subcontracting for all the EPC packages throughout the engineering, procurement and construction phases, as well as warranty management and the project close-out.

The project completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020, according to the report.

The services will be mainly performed at TAP’s headquarters in Baar, Switzerland, and Technip’s office in Rome, Italy. Other project centers will be operating in Greece, Albania and Italy.

Technip is a world leader in project management, engineering and construction for the energy industry.

TAP project is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor that will allow Europe to diversify its hydrocarbon supply sources and strengthen energy security. Azerbaijani gas is designed to open the Southern Gas Corridor.

TAP will transport natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz II field in Azerbaijan to Europe. The approximately 870 km long pipeline will connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border at Kipoi, cross Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of BP (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Statoil (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagás (16 percent) and Axpo (5 percent).

TAP’s initial capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters per year. First gas within the Shah Deniz II project will be delivered to Europe via TAP in early 2020.
