WHO reports over 786,000 new daily cases of coronavirus globally

More than 786,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection were registered worldwide in the past day, with the overall number of such cases exceeding 157.28 million, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in its daily bulletin on Sunday, AzVision.az reports citing TASS.

On May 9, as many as 157,289,118 novel coronavirus cases and 3,277,272 coronavirus-associated deaths were registered across the globe. The number of confirmed cases grew by 786,943 in the past 24 hours and the number of fatalities increased by 12,994.

The WHO statistics is based on officially confirmed data from the countries.

Southeast Asia accounts for more than 53% of the COVID-19 daily tally (424,052 cases). Next are North and South America (198,096) and Europe (107,253).

The biggest number of coronavirus cases was reported from the United States (32,300,609), India (22,296,414), Brazil (15,082,449), France (5,696,293), Turkey (5,016,141), Russia (4,880,262), the United Kingdom (4,433,094), Italy (4,102,921), Spain (3,559,222), Germany (3,520,329), Argentina (3,118,134), and Colombia (2,968,626).

The biggest number of fatalities was reported from the United States (575,322), Brazil (419,114), India (242,362), Mexico (218,657), the United Kingdom (127,603), Italy (122,694), Russia (113,326), France (105,544), Germany (84,775), Spain (78,726), Colombia (76,867), and Iran (74,524).
