According to the newspaper, the Gujarat Banaskantha district bordering the state of Rajasthan was hit the hardest.
"Eight people have died in the district so far. Two deaths were reported from Kankrej, and one each from Vav, Tharad, Suigam, Dhanera, Bhabhar and Lakhan," spokesperson for the local administration Dilip Rana told the newspaper, adding that six more people have gone missing.
The rains left some 400 villages without electricity and prompted the evacuation of some 1,000 people.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rains will last for at least three more days in some districts of Rajasthan and for at least 24 hours in the western part of Madhya Pradesh.
