Azerbaijan, Iran reach several border related agreements
Azerbaijan and Iran reached several agreements on border related matters, commander of the Iranian Border Police Hussein Zulfugari told Trend on Tuesday during his visit to Baku.
"The visit was paid at the invitation of Commander of Azerbaijani Border Troops Elchin Guliyev and was aimed at improving the protection of the borders of both countries," he said.

"The discussions were held with the leadership of the Azerbaijani State Border Service during the visit," Zulfugari said.

"During our discussions, we came to an agreement for the border services of both countries to meet twice a year, share information about criminals, hold meetings between deputy commanders of border services once a year and bilateral meetings in Baku and Tehran once a year. Both sides agreed that the border services have a reasonable attitude to Iranian and Azerbaijani citizens."

Zulfugari stressed that operations for fortifying the banks of the Araz river must be conducted on the basis of mutual understanding and cooperation between border services. The Julfa bridge is ready and the two sides discussed the issue of recognizing the boundary line on the bridge.

"Azerbaijani border guards promised that they will examine the issue and announce their decision within three months," he said. The old bridge is unfit for use. We will try for a new bridge to be opened in the near future."
