Iran calls for change of structure of IAEA
Iran`s ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi called on restructure of the IAEA, Iranian State IRINN TV reported.
Najafi made the remarks during his first board meeting of the IAEA on Thursday.

The General Conference of IAEA includes all members of the Agency, while the members of the Board of Governors are limited, Najafi said, adding that there is not a suitable balance between the powers and duties of the two pillars.

The decisions made by the General Conference mainly previously approved or recommended by the Board of Governors, he argued.

The number of Board of Governors` members should be increased, Najafi said.

He also underlined that Iran will cooperate with the U.N. nuclear agency to find ways to "overcome existing issues once and for all".

"Based on its rights and obligations recognized under the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), Iran is ready to faithfully engage and remove any ambiguity on its nuclear activities", Najafi added.

It should be noted that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani presented Reza Najafi as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in August 2013.

Previously, Ali Asghar Soltanieh acted as Iran`s ambassador to IAEA since 2005, during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad`s presidency.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.

The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it doesn`t seek to develop nuclear weapons, but to use nuclear energy for medical researches.
