The most powerful cyclone of 2015 is in the Pacific Ocean, heading towards Japan, Taiwan and China. It is expected to hit land later this week; it already caused significant devastation on the island of Saipan in the western Pacific on Sunday.
According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), Typhoon Soudelor peaked on Monday with sustained winds of 290 kph (180 mph) and gusts of up to 350 kph (220 mph).
On Tuesday eveningb the typhoon was no longer a super typhoon, but still the equivalent of a Category Four hurricane, with sustained winds of 210 kph (130 mph) as well as gusts of wind which were even stronger.

After leaving a trail of destruction in the US territory of Saipan, Typhoon Soudelor developed into the strongest tropical cyclone of 2015 on Monday, a category 5 storm with wind speeds of 290 kph (180 mph).
