“The bicycle march is first and foremost the symbol of healthy lifestyle, and it’s also a means of expressing our civil stance. It signifies that we are continuing our struggle; the struggle which took place in [Yerevan’s] Baghramyan Avenue hasn’t yet been finished. One of our key objectives is to thank the people for taking part in the Baghramyan Avenue sit-in,” the bicycle protest organizer Narek Ayvazyan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.
The bicycle march participants said they were going to ride around the central streets of Yerevan: Baghramyan Avenue, Sayat-Nova street, Abovyan street, Republic Square, Amiryan street, Mashtots Avenue, Sayat-Nova street, Teryan street, Tumanyan street and Liberty Square.
The participants will urge the citizens to demand what’s theirs and struggle till the end.
The bicycle march is accompanied by police cars.
Struggle against electricity price hike in Armenia has been underway since June 22. On June 23, the police used force to disperse the sit-in in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue, detaining 237 people, but the protests restarted the same evening. After the President’s statement, the protests continued in Baghramyan Avenue until July 6, when the police opened the avenue, detaining over 40 activists.
