Turkey`s Jobless Rate Falls To 9.3 Percent
Decrease of 0.3 percent in unemployment from April, 2.8 million currently jobless.
Month-on-month unemployment in Turkey fell slightly in May, official figures showed on Monday.

The jobless rate fell to 9.3 percent from 9.6 percent in April, the Turkish Statistical Institute, or TurkStat, reported.

However, there was a 0.5 percent point rise in unemployment over the year to May with 2.79 million out of work. The rate of labor force participation remained steady at 51.7 percent, with 29.86 million people in work.

The proportion of women in work rose to 32.1 percent, a 1.1 percentage point increase over the year to May. The rate for men remained the same at 71.8 percent.

The employment rate rose slightly over the year to 46.9 percent in May, TurkStat reported.

Service industry employment rose slightly while jobs in agriculture and construction fell.

In its latest World Economic Outlook report, the International Monetary Fund predicted that Turkey`s unemployment rate would rise to 11.4 percent this year. - Ankara
