“Establishment of working relations with relevant bodies of world countries on the basis of mutual benefit is helping boost the protection of our state borders and level of proficiency, master and apply new technologies, implement trans-Caspian projects, organize the protection of parts of oil and gas pipelines that intersect the borders, provide security of corridors such as TRASEKA, the East-West and GUAM, and eliminate the existing problems on the borders. The SBS enjoys successful relations with developed western countries, NATO, the European Union, the International Organization for Migration, and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Baku has hosted some meetings of the working group of the International Border Issues Conference (SIOFOK Conference) several years.
Elchin Guliyev said that relations, established basing on mutual benefit, are yielding positive results in staff training: “Azerbaijani border guards are sent to courses, trainings in foreign countries and it helps to increase their level of professionalism. Border guards are coming to Azerbaijan from foreign countries and benefiting from our country`s experience in border protection. The Academy of Azerbaijan State Border Service (SBS) is becoming an international training center for preparing professionals in the protection of the borders of foreign countries. Last year, the academy organized courses for high-ranking officers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Border services of CIS member states, Afghanistan and Iraq appealed for their servicemen’s studying at the Academy of State Border Service, negotiations are continuing in this direction,” he said.
