Former head of the Ministry of Justice of the Federal Republic of Germany Christine Lambrecht has been appointed Minister of Defense of Germany, the corresponding appointment was made on Wednesday by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The ceremony was broadcast by the TV channel N24.
She became the third consecutive woman in this position after Ursula von der Leinen and Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. Lambrecht belongs to the Social Democratic Party of Germany, whose representative Olaf Scholz became the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Lambrecht is a lawyer and politician, she has no experience with the armed forces. Since June 2019, she has been heading the Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, and since May 2021, she has also been at the head of the Ministry of Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth Affairs.
Nancy Feser, a politician from Hesse, became the head of the German Interior Ministry. Hubertus Heil remained at the head of the Ministry of Labor, and health expert Karl Lauterbach became the head of the Ministry of Health.
The new Ministry of Construction and Housing in the German government was headed by a politician from East Germany, Clara Geywitz, and the former Minister of the Environment Svenja Schulze became Minister of Development. Wolfgang Schmidt headed the department of the German Chancellor.
