  Armenia sets date for presidential election

The National Assembly of Armenia will elect the country’s president at a regular session to be convened from March 1, sources close to the ruling Civil Contract party told local Zhoghovurd newspaper, AzVision.az reports.

According to Zhoghovurd, the authorities intends to hold the election in the period from March 3 to March 5; it is not ruled out—on March 3 exactly.

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian announced his resignation on January 23.

In his written statement, Sarkissian said that he does not have the “necessary tools to influence the radical processes of domestic and foreign policy in these difficult times for the country and the nation.”
