European Parliament grants Ukraine, Moldova candidate status

The European Parliament has approved EU candidacy status for Ukraine and Moldova in a convincing vote on Thursday, AzVision.az reports citing The Independent.

In total, 529 votes were made in support of the resolution to defer the status on Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, while 45 were made against the proposal. A further 14 politicians abstained.

“Unequivocal & strong position by the European Parliament. Today EUCO should grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova and same path for Georgia. This will show leadership, resolve & vision in context of Russia's war against Ukraine,” European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said on Twitter.
