EU to admit new regulation ensuring gas storage refilling

EU will accept a new regulation ensuring gas storage refilling, AzVision.az reports with reference to the European Commission.

Reportedly, on June 27, Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will represent the European Commission at the Energy Council in Luxembourg. The ministers will aim to reach a general approach on the Commission’s proposals to amend EU renewable energy and energy efficiency rules as part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package to implement the EU Green Deal. They are also expected to adopt a new EU regulation ensuring the refilling of gas storage across the EU, proposed by the Commission last March to strengthen the security of energy supply ahead of next winter. In addition, they will assess the progress made in the Council on proposed new rules to reduce methane emissions in the energy sector and to improve the energy performance of buildings.

The Commissioner will discuss the overall EU energy situation in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine with the ministers, including national preparedness plans and possible additional measures.

“We need to step up our preparedness in a coordinated way, and push forward all the pillars of our REPowerEU plan: diversification, green energy and energy savings. This Energy Council is a key moment to do so, by moving forward with our legislative work on renewables, energy efficiency and gas storage,” said Simson.
