Two of the world's largest container ships undocked at a shipyard in Taixing City, east China's Jiangsu Province on Saturday, according to the China Global Television Network (CGTN).
Each with a capacity of 24,346 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), the two container vessels mark a new record in the world's top ultra-large container ship construction field.
The vessels have a length of 399.99 meters, a width of 61.3 meters and a deck area reaching 24,000 square meters, the equivalent of 3.5 standard football fields.
The two ships will be delivered to the shipowner in February next year after completing follow-up outfitting and sea trials, while the other four ships are expected to be delivered in 2023 as well.
Ultra-large container ships refer to vessels with a nominal container capacity of 10,000 TEUs and over.
China's shipbuilding industry continued to lead in international market share in the first three quarters, among which the container ships with more than 10,000 TEUs accounted for 51.7 percent of the global market, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information on Thursday.
