Azerbaijani ambassador to Australia responds to former embassy official`s accusations
Anar Hasanov, a former embassy official, was an irresponsible employee absolutely far from professionalism and ethical behavior. During his service, he had serious shortcomings and he proved completely useless for diplomatic service. Despite explanatory efforts, he did not correct himself, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Australia Rovshan Jamshidov told APA on Sept.9, responding to Hasanov
I have refused to make his dreams of career development a reality because he has no distinguishing professional qualities, the ambassador noted.

The diplomat said he has raised an issue before the Foreign Ministry for his recalling from a long-term working trip due to Hasanov’s serious flaws and irresponsible behavior during his period of service.

“The decision of his dismissal has been reached on the basis. Over a period of 7 years of his diplomatic service, Anar Hasanov, has been promoted only one step – the position of third secretary, which is just one step higher than the lowest position. However, diplomats 37 years of age – his age – usually work in senior positions department head at the ministry, department chief, as a foreign ambassador, etc. The fact that he could not take a step forward in his service position is indicative of how low his professional skills and outlook is. Having understood he his unfit for diplomatic service, Hasanov is using slanders as the last resort in order to cover up his failure. Isn’t it strange that 11 years after a long-term working trip to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Romania, before Australia, he was sent back for the same reasons? I regret having given such a person a chance to prove himself at the embassy,” said Rovshan Jamshidov.

The ambassador also responded to some of the accusations by Hasanov.

“Anar Hasanov claims he is under pressure and that penalties are being considered against him. Is it a penalty to be recalled from a foreign country? He has not yet been launched investigation against, nor has he given an explanation to judicial bodies, nor is he in prison for his lies and slanders. In fact, it’s no surprise to see a person who seeks to cast doubt on the history of Azerbaijani statehood trying to vilify Azerbaijan’s state authorities. I’m confident that the information leaked to media outlets is wrong. Having been offended after his dismissal, Hasanov is trying to achieve something by means of slander and provocation,” the ambassador said.

Jamshidov recalled that he had previously served as Azerbaijani ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

“Since the embassy is a budgetary organization, the spending of the allocated funds is carried out under the control of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Finance and Currency and Finance Ministry. Financial inspections are carried out on a regular basis. Even in special cases, inspections are conducted by the Chamber of Accounts,” the ambassador noted.

The embassy conducts all its financial transactions via bank, Jamshidov said, noting the unspent funds in amount of 69110 Australian dollars (appr. 53300 US dollars) were returned by the embassy.

The ambassador went on to add that he personally appealed to the foreign ministry to conduct an audit of the embassy’s financial-economic activity.

Unfortunately, some media outlets and blogs are carrying out a biased campaign against the Azerbaijani foreign ministry and its diplomatic missions abroad, Jamshidov said, noting it is evident that the successful foreign policy pursued under the president’s leadership bothers some forces, both outside and inside the country.

Anar Hasanov, a former official of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Australia, appealed to the media in connection with the details of his dismissal. In his appeal, he urges that there are corruption cases in the embassy, voicing accusations against the ambassador and the chief accountant of the embassy. Hasanov also sent to the media copies of several official documents.

Hasanov accused the embassy staff of embezzling public funds, financial fraud and abuse of office. Hasanov said after he had sent a written appeal to Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, he was fired from his job, kicked out of a rented apartment, and he, along with his pregnant wife was forced to apply for asylum in Australia.
