French couple kill son in washing machine
A French couple have received a total of 42 years in prison after being found complicit in killing their three-year-old toddler in a whirling washing machine.
Christophe Champenois, who stuffed the victim in the device as means of punishment before switching it on, was sentenced to 30 years in prison at the Assize Court in the Melun commune in north-central France on Friday for the crime he committed in 2011.

He went on to use the Internet after subjecting the boy to the brutality, while his mother, Charlene Cotte, busied herself with their elder daughter. Appearing alongside the father at the trial, she was jailed for 12 years for "aiding and abetting murder and violence."

"At least he won`t bother us anymore," the mother quoted the father as saying after he found out that the victim had succumbed to death. It was not the first time Bastien, as the victim was named, had become the subject of punishment by Champenois.

The father told the doctor afterwards that his son had drowned while he was giving him a bath. But the victim`s older sister notified the physician that "daddy put Bastien in the washing machine because he was naughty at school."
