The announcement came from the Defence Ministry of Georgia on June 13.

The Deputy Defence Minister, Grigol Giorgadze provided clarifications stating that cooperation between the two Defense Ministries covers military education, training and exercises, logistics, military medicine, military legislation and other directions within the NATO “Partnership for Peace” program.

The cooperation agreement was signed in April during Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze's meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Colonel General Zakir Hasanov in Baku.

The Georgian Defence Ministry said back then that the two ministers discussed bilateral defense cooperation and future plans, including participation in international exercises and military training programs.

Burchuladze and Hasanov also discussed the issues of cooperation within the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia trilateral cooperation format, noting that “strategic meetings, defense cooperation, joint exercises and expert meetings further strengthen interoperability among the countries.”

Moreover, the two ministers focused on the security challenges facing the region and stressed the momentum of bilateral visits, which “confirms the readiness to strengthen ties for the benefit of the countries and the region.”
