Following Ilham Aliyev's re-election as President of Azerbaijan, the British Ambassador to the country, Mr Fergus Auld, extended his congratulations and outlined the UK's hopes for the future in his post on X platform.
"I congratulate President Aliyev on his victory in the elections," Ambassador Auld stated. "Great Britain, as a close partner, encourages Azerbaijan to use this opportunity to sign a peace agreement with Armenia."
Beyond the call for peace, Ambassador Auld offered continued support for Azerbaijan in other areas. "We are pleased to support Azerbaijan in the successful implementation of COP29," he said, referring to the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
