The Republic of Azerbaijan and Hungary convened their first-ever consular consultations in Budapest on March 4, 2024, marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral relations.
The Azerbaijani delegation, led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held discussions with their Hungarian counterparts, headed by Balazs Farkas, Director of the Consular and Citizenship Department at the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Hungary, Tahir Taghizadeh, and a representative from the Ministry of Science and Education also participated in the meeting.
Discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of consular cooperation between the two nations. Possibilities for signing new bilateral agreements in this field and the potential for digitalizing consular services were explored.
Both sides acknowledged the importance of strengthening relations beyond consulate affairs, particularly in areas like education and migration. They agreed to collaborate on initiatives that safeguard the rights and interests of their respective citizens.
The successful inaugural meeting concluded with an agreement to hold the next round of consular consultations in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2025. This signifies a positive step towards fostering stronger consular cooperation and broader ties between Azerbaijan and Hungary.
