Azerbaijan MFA, World Bank discuss cooperation and COP29 preparations

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with a World Bank delegation led by Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani on March 6th, 2024.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Bank, with both parties acknowledging the success of ongoing projects in various sectors like economy, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. Minister Bayramov highlighted how this collaboration has furthered Azerbaijan's ties with other regional and international financial institutions.

A key topic was Azerbaijan's upcoming chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Minister Bayramov emphasized the ongoing negotiations and preparations for the event, expressing his hope that the World Bank can serve as a platform for connecting with other countries and financial institutions to contribute to the process.

He also addressed the large-scale reconstruction and development efforts in the liberated territories, emphasizing the focus on harnessing their renewable energy potential. He noted the involvement of several foreign partners in relevant projects.

The World Bank delegation congratulated Azerbaijan on its chairmanship and expressed confidence in a successful experience. They acknowledged the importance of implementing the global commitments that will be established at COP29 and offered their support for initiatives towards achieving this goal.

The meeting concluded with discussions on other areas of mutual interest.
