  Eight years since Azerbaijani Army

On the eighth anniversary of the counteroffensive operation that successfully repelled Armenian provocations on the night of April 1-2, 2016 (April battles), the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense commemorates this historic event.

The Ministry's statement highlights the April battles as "one of our most glorious historical victories, written in golden letters in our military history." The exceptional courage of Azerbaijani soldiers liberated over 2,000 hectares of occupied territories in Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Aghdara districts, bringing thousands of additional hectares under Azerbaijani control.

"This victory shattered the myth of Armenian invincibility that had been cultivated for years," the statement continues. However, it emphasizes that Armenian forces, "unable to relinquish their hostility," resorted to further provocations along the frontline.

The statement concludes by referencing the subsequent 44-day Patriotic War, launched in response to large-scale Armenian attacks in September 2020. Under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity, avenged its martyrs, and secured the return of displaced people to their homelands. The April battles, a significant chapter in the nation's history, are remembered as a turning point that paved the way for this ultimate victory.
