Palchev said that Azerbaijan would continue strengthening and developing its energy power, regardless of Iran’s return to the global oil and gas market after the lifting of sanctions.
He said that Europe has great hope for Azerbaijan, which is able to ensure the energy security of the continent.
“The diversification of the sources and routes of supplying energy resources to the country is important for Bulgaria,” he said. “In this respect, Azerbaijan is seen as an important partner of Bulgaria.”
The energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria, the energy future of Azerbaijan as a whole will be discussed during the round table, planned to be organized by the Bulgaria-Azerbaijan Friendship Society in Sofia by late 2015. Former Bulgarian ambassador to Azerbaijan Ivan Palchev is the chairman of the society.
Bulgaria is ready to become a transit country for Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe.
Bulgaria also continues to make every effort to build IGB interconnector (Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria) for the supply of Azerbaijani gas.
IGB is the gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas extracted from Shah Deniz gas condensate field stage II.
IGB is to be connected to the Trans-Adriatic pipeline via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets. Bulgaria intends to build a pipeline, which will be connected with the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in the future. Azerbaijani gas will be delivered to Europe via this pipeline. Thus, Bulgaria will be able to receive gas from Azerbaijan.
