Malacarne said this is his firts visit to Azerbaijan and noted that the construction works held in Baku over the short period of time left a deep impression on him.
The head of state expressed the hope that during the visit Snam representatives will discuss issues of cooperation with SOCAR and that the memo of understanding between the two companies will define prospects for this cooperation.
Malacarne noted that Snam is the leading infrastructure operator in Europe and expressed satisfaction with cooperation between Snam and SOCAR. He said this cooperation is important in terms of gas supply not only to Italy but also to Europe.
The head of state said that Azerbaijan contributes to security of gas supplies to Europe and noted that strong cooperation between Italy`s Snam and Azerbaijan in different sections is possible in this direction.
The guest informed the president about the activity of the company which acts in the sphere of gas supplies to Europe and noted the importance of Azerbaijan as a new gas supplier to Europe.
Stressing the importance of the Southern gas corridor for all sides, President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is playing a leading role in this project.
He said "Azerbaijan`s role of a gas supplier will further grow."
During the meeting the sides discussed issues of prospects of cooperation with Italy`s Snam.
