Croatia Seals Border for Serbian Travelers, Transport
Croatia has banned Serbian citizens and transport from crossing its border after Belgrade restricted access for Croatian cargo traffic, Serbian border guards told a local news agency early Thursday.
Serbian passport-holders told news agency Tanjug that Croatian border guards turned them away at the Bajakovo-Batrovci crossing, saying the border was closed. Some travelers are said to have lingered at the border in hope that restrictions would be lifted.

Beginning Thursday midnight, Belgrade closed Serbian borders and prohibited transit across its territory for Croatian trucks, trains and ships after Zagreb took a similar action on Serbian freight traffic on Monday, citing Serbia’s alleged shipping of migrants across the border.

Croatia became a key transit country for tens of thousands of migrants after Hungary closed its borders to primarily Syrian refugees earlier this month, prompting the creation of alternative routes to Europe.
