Germany Aims to Actively Participate in Reforming UN - Merkel
Germany will be fully engaged in reforming the United Nations, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday.
Merkel said that the UN must be assembled in such a way as to be able to quickly and effectively respond to new global challenges in order to be relevant.

"Germany will be actively involved in the necessary reforming process," Merkel told the Bundestag.

It is regularly argued that the seventy-year-old organization is in need of deep reform as the balance of world power has significantly changed since the end of World War II.

The need for United Nations reform has been openly discussed since the early 1990s. The organization’s current Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has repeatedly called for change at the UN.
