Moldova begins second stage of EU accession negotiations

The Republic of Moldova has commenced the second stage of its accession negotiations, known as bilateral screening, the country's government said Thursday, AzVision.az reports.

To mark this occasion, Moldova hosted a substantial delegation from the European Commission.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, welcomed the European officials, underscoring the significance of the event for her country.

“I am delighted that today’s session is taking place in Chisinau, allowing colleagues from the European Commission to gain a better understanding of our country. Today marks the beginning of a new phase on Moldova's European path - a path towards peace, freedom, prosperity, and security”, stated Cristina Gherasimov.

In his address, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood, Oliver Varhelyi, reiterated the EU's commitment and support for Moldova's accession process, highlighting that the implementation of the acquis communautaire will bring even greater benefits to our citizens.

“Public procurement, covered under Chapter 5, is fundamental to the success of the accession negotiations. Implementing these rules will not only ensure transparency and fairness but will also facilitate swift access to EU funds, thereby supporting Moldova's economic and investment plan. This is an essential step for our citizens to experience the benefits of the European Union as soon as possible”, said Oliver Varhelyi.
