Second Shusha Global Media Forum features presentation of report highlighting French colonialism

At the second Shusha Global Media Forum themed “Unmasking False Narratives: Confronting Disinformation,” a report titled "Evolution of French colonialism: A political and constitutional analysis" was presented by Carlyle Corbin, an international expert on governance and representative of French Polynesia to the UN. This report was initiated by the Baku Initiative Group.

Carlyle Corbin, alongside Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group, delivered the presentation.

Addressing the event, Abbas Abbasov emphasized that the efforts of the Baku Initiative Group have successfully brought the colonial policies of France to the attention of the international community.

Carlyle Corbin noted that many people suffering from colonialism are unaware of their existing opportunities for resistance. He highlighted that the fight is possible only within the UN territories.

Underscoring that nuclear weapons have been tested in French Polynesia for nearly 30 years, the expert noted that it negatively affects the health of the people. He pointed out that France was trying to change the composition of the local population by resettling other peoples into the colonial territories.

Noting that Azerbaijan promotes keeping the problem of colonialism on the agenda, Carlyle Corbin described the country as a very strong partner.

“The colonial territories have a limited audience. Azerbaijan creates great opportunities for us in this issue. We are very happy that Azerbaijan is our ally in this matter," he added.

In a 140-page dependency studies project, Carlyle Corbin detailed France's former and current colonies, including Vietnam, Algeria, New Caledonia (Kanaky), French Polynesia (Maohi Nui), Saint Martin, Saint Barthelemy, Mayotte (as a territory of the Union of the Comoros), Reunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and the history of the colonization of French Guiana, as well as the ongoing colonial policies of France.
