Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev revealed this development during an event commemorating Egypt’s National Day, AzVision.az reports.
Nabiyev highlighted that Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) currently operates flights between Baku and Sharm el-Sheikh. Given the recent surge in travel, with the number of Azerbaijani visitors to Egypt increasing nearly threefold, the introduction of direct flights between Baku and Cairo is expected to further enhance travel numbers and strengthen connections between the two nations.
Additionally, Nabiyev announced that a meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Technical, and Scientific Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt is scheduled to take place before the end of the year. This meeting aims to bolster bilateral relations and address collaborative opportunities.
The Minister underscored that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Egypt has been growing steadily, with 49 agreements signed to date. Furthermore, trade turnover between the countries has seen a significant rise in the first six months of 2024, reflecting the strengthening economic ties and the expanding scope of cooperation between the two nations.
