History of Zangezur in English : New book published

The book Historical and Ethnographic Panorama of Zangezur on the Background of Archive Documents was published as part of the project Ethnographic and Geopolitical Realities of Zangezur Against the Background of Historical Archive Documents, implemented by the Public Union "Supporting the Development of Public Relations" with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Alongside the book, a video detailing the history of Zangezur was also unveiled.

At the presentation, held in the meeting hall of the Center for Strategic Communications in Dalga Plaza, the author of the book, Professor Shalala Hasanova of Baku Slavic University and an Honored Journalist emphasized the importance of presenting the historical and ethnographic landscape of Zangezur in English. Professor Hasanova noted that the archival documents obtained from the national archives of Russia, Georgia, and Armenia provide an irrefutable scientific base for Western political and academic circles.

The author expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Culture for its financial support, to Razzaq Khansuvarova, an expert in archival work, for his role as editor-consultant, and to translator Mammad Najafzade, who contributed to the preparation of the book.

The book contains numerous unique facts. Among the most significant are the initial administrative changes in Zangezur, descriptions of Turkish-origin tribes and chieftainships, groundless lawsuits filed by displaced Armenians against Azerbaijanis, interesting details about the village of Jamardli and the Sisian district, and a detailed table documenting the resettlement of Armenians to Zangezur in 1832 and 1873.

Azerbaijani semi-nomadic and sedentary tribes that settled in the ancient homeland of Zangezur are covered in this book for the first time. Additionally, the book presents comparative statistical results regarding settlements from different years.

The presentation was attended by influential scholars, representatives of NGOs, members of the media, social activists, and students. Among the notable attendees were historians Firdovsiya Ahmadova and Jabi Bahramov, journalist and associate professor of the People's Friendship University of Russia Anar Hasanov, researchers Ali Abdullayev and Bakhtiyar Hasanov, and civil society activists Rauf Zeyni, Bahar Gasimova, and Irada Rizaza. They highlighted the exceptional importance of establishing the Eastern Zangezur Economic Zone and forming the West Azerbaijan Community, which increases hopes for a return to our ancestral lands in Zangezur. They also discussed the relevance of the topic, the significance of researching and publishing historical documents in English, and the importance of distributing the book internationally.
