Climate legislation harmonization will be Azerbaijan's top priority at COP 29, President of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said during the international conference “Law and Climate," AzVision.az reports.

“Azerbaijan will continue to support the transition to a green economy on the world stage, strengthening its leading position. These measures will also strengthen our country's position as a reliable and responsible partner in the international arena. Harmonization of climate legislation will be the most important aspect during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of COP 29,” he said.

According to him, the Law and Climate Forum will go the extra mile to bolster legal instruments to tackle the global climate crisis and foster international cooperation.

“Climate change threatens basic human rights. To ensure stakeholder involvement, COP 29 will host states, international organizations, NGOs, civil society, eco-activists, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. The agreement with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change secretariat, reached during COP29 in our country, also includes public participation due to the issue's importance. This agreement binds us. Azerbaijan's climate change adaptation and sustainable development should get international support. This climate forum gives our country significant opportunities, which must be maximized. I believe today's discussions will advance international climate law and climate justice,” Babayev added.
