International Liberation Front denounces colonial violence by France

The International Front for the Liberation of the last French Colonies has strongly denounced the colonial violence perpetrated by Paris, AzVision.az reports.

In a statement, the Front described the killing of two young Kanaks from the village of Saint-Louis as a tragic illustration of the situation in Kanaky.

The statement accused the French state of betraying the promises made in the Noumea Accord and Matignon agreements, insisting on maintaining the colonial regime under the pretext of maintaining order. "France prefers to solve the problems of numerous indigenous peoples under colonialism through violent methods," the Front said.

The Front called on the international community not to remain silent in the face of this systematic and institutional violence emphasizing that it is the duty of the international community to put pressure on France, demand respect for international legal standards, and call for an immediate end to the repression perpetrated by its repressive forces.

“The situation in Martinique is also dire, with the economic and social justice rights of the Martinican people being brutally suppressed,” reads the statement. The Front strongly condemned this state repression aimed at stifling the people's demands, calling it part of the colonial logic.

“The International Front for the Liberation expresses its unwavering support for all victims of colonialism in Kanaky, Martinique, and around the world. Our struggle is a struggle for justice, freedom, liberation, and the dignity of our people," the statement reads. "We will remain faithful to our struggle until colonialism is definitively eliminated and our peoples can finally flourish in freedom, peace, and sovereignty."

The statement was joined by 17 political movements from territories under French colonialism.

In July 2024, leaders of political parties and movements fighting for independence in French colonies held their First Congress in Baku and established the International Front for the Liberation of the last French Colonies.
