Ahead of this 70th anniversary General Debate, Mr. Ban will present his annual report on the work of the Organization. This year’s Assembly President, Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark, will then deliver the keynote opening speech. He will then be followed by Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, whose country holds the traditional role of first national speaker. She will be followed by United States President Barak Obama, president of the People`s Republic of China Xi Jinping, Jordan`s King Abdullah II and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to address the gathering for first time since 2005. Presidents of Belarus, Turkmenistan, Cuba and Argentina will also speak on Monday.
Presidents of Ukraine, Armenia and Tajikistan will address the summit on September 29.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will address general debate on October 1. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People`s Republic of Korea Ri Su Yong, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem will also address on that day.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov is expected to deliver a speech on October 1-2.
Each speaker will touch on the issues concerning his country. The debate will focus on the refugee crisis in Europe, growing conflicts in the world, threat of terrorism, peace and security issues.
