Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia exempt visa requirements for diplomats

Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the margins of the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, the sides hailed the further developing of Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia relations. They deliberated on the collaboration between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia based on mutual respect for each other's legitimate interests within the international organizations such as the UN and the OIC.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed gratitude to Arabian counterpart for constant support of Azerbaijan’s rightful position.

FM Bayramov lauded Saudi Arabia’s activity in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector, noting that the hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change by Azerbaijan this year could create further opportunities for Azerbaijan-Saudi Arabia cooperation in the area of green energy.

During the meeting, the sides acknowledged the importance of realizing the potential of the Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission as a mechanism for cooperation to maximize the existing development opportunities in the areas of economy, trade and investment for the benefit of both countries.

The discussions during the meeting also centered around other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Furthermore, the ministers signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on exemption of holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports from visa requirements for short-term visits.
