A working meeting has taken place at the Command of Border Control of the Azerbaijani State Border Service (SBS) at Heydar Aliyev International Airport to familiarize the SBS leadership with the organization of border control in the context of COP29, as well as to review the work done and assess the level of preparedness, AzVision.az reports citing Azerbaijan's SBS.

The source pointed out that the tasks set by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Victorious Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev in relation to the international event were communicated to the personnel of the Border Control Command.

"Chief of the SBS, Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, and the President of the Azerbaijan Airlines Closed Joint Stock Company, Samir Rzayev, inspected the special technical equipment and control devices for implementing technological advancements, enhancing security measures, conducting operational checks on the documents of foreign guests, and ensuring the swift passage of passport control.

After hearing reports on the work done during the working meeting, the leadership of the SBS provided necessary recommendations and instructions for the effective execution of the tasks assigned to the Border Control Command in connection with the upcoming prestigious international event in Azerbaijan," the source added.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
