Western Azerbaijan Community holds meeting with US delegation

The Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC) has held a meeting with the US delegation represented by Co-Founder of the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network, President of the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), Lead Pastor of Northwood Church in Texas Bob Roberts, and IGE Vice President James Chen, a source in the WAC reported.

According to the source, the meeting, attended by Chair of the WAC Women’s Council Malahat Ibrahimgizi, Deputy Chair of the WAC Youth Council Kamal Jafarov, and the WAC Spokesperson, Director of Western Azerbaijan TV Ulviyya Zulfigar, briefed the guests on the realities faced by Western Azerbaijan, including the phased deportations of compatriots from their native lands over the past century.

Ibrahimgizi described how, following these deportations, the rich tangible and cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijanis on their homeland was destroyed, including more than 300 mosques, palaces, fortresses, caravanserais, and about 500 cemeteries.

Jafarov emphasized that Armenia’s destruction of mosques and cemeteries exceeds all bounds, including in terms of religious respect.

Zulfigar highlighted the importance of supporting the just cause of Western Azerbaijanis worldwide, including in the US, and stressed the need for cooperation to implement the right of return, based on the norms and principles of international law.

Speaking about Western Azerbaijan, Roberts noted that he now has a more detailed and accurate understanding of the true essence of the issue.

He also praised Azerbaijan’s high level of tolerance.
