Election day kicks off in US as Harris, Trump tie in iconic midnight vote

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and the Republican nominee Donald Trump tied in an iconic midnight vote, marking the official start of US Election Day 2024.

According to ABC News, with six registered voters in Dixville Notch, a small town in New Hampshire, a northeastern US state of about 1.4 million residents, both Vice President Harris and former President Trump got three votes each, AzVision.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

The midnight group, made up of four registered Republicans and two undeclared voters, were evenly divided in their choice for president in this year’s race, which analysts have predicted will be very close.

Voters in Dixville Notch have backed the Democratic nominee in the last two presidential elections.

In 2020, they unanimously voted for Joe Biden, giving him all five votes cast that year. Biden became president that year.

In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won four out of seven votes, while Trump got two, and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson one. Trump won overall that year, and served one term, before being defeated by Biden and Harris.
