 Azerbaijani FM underlines COP29 preparations at 11th OTS Foreign Ministers Council’s meeting in Bishkek

As part of his working visit to Kyrgyzstan, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended Wednesday the 11th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization Turkic States (OTS) in Bishkek.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Jehyun Bayramov highlighted the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OTS across economy, trade, transport, communication, energy security, digital technologies, culture and other domains, the country’s vision and initiatives towards strengthening the organization, as well as Azerbaijan’s Presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

He expressed Azerbaijan’s willingness to continue its efforts to revitalize the organization. In this vein, FM Bayramov stressed the importance of expanding the composition of the secretariat and increasing budget of the organization.

He hailed the fact that over the past 15 years since the establishment of the OTS by the adoption of the Nakhchivan Agreement, the organization had managed to become a reliable organization both in the region and worldwide.

The Azerbaijani diplomat expressed his confidence that the 11th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States under the motto “Empowering the Turkic World: Economic Integration, Sustainable Development, Digital Future, and Security for All,” as well as all the documents to be adopted within the Summit, including the Bishkek Declaration of the Eleventh Summit of the Organization of Turkic States and the Charter of the Turkic World would contribute to the development of the organization.

He also underscored the significance of bolstering economic potential, increasing trade turnover, diversifying transport corridors to ensure prosperity and achieve common goals in the region amid existing regional and global challenges.

In this context, FM Bayramov emphasized the importance of the Garabagh Declaration adopted at the Informal Summit of the OTS Heads of State on July 6, in Shusha in using the full potential of the Turkic States, as well as undertaking joint initiatives and projects.

FM Bayramov commended the activities of TURKPA, TURKSOY, Turkic Academy, International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and Turkic Investment Fund, as well as the Representation Office of the OTS in Hungary.

Providing insights into the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out in the liberated territories, Minister Bayramov noted that the reconstruction efforts of the Azerbaijani government provide broad opportunities for cooperation, including the development of the Middle Corridor.

Jeyhun Bayramov also highlighted the high-level preparations underway in Azerbaijan by the COP29 Presidency. The minister underlined that a number of joint initiatives would be rolled out within the framework of this prestigious event, set to take place for the first time in the Turkic world.

At the end of the meeting, the foreign ministers signed the “Decision on the Adoption of the Regulation of the Permanent Representatives to the Organization of Turkic States" and the "Decision on Awarding the Organization of Turkic States with the Alisher Navoi International Prize for the contribution to the unity of the Turkic World."
