AzerGold to assess promising areas in Guinea-Bissau

Zakir Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold CJSC, met with a delegation led by Carlos Pinto Pereira, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, along with Viriato Cassamá, Minister of Environment, Biodiversity, and Climate Action of Guinea-Bissau.

Zakir Ibrahimov briefed the delegation on AzerGold’s achievements, its strategic plans, and the company’s activities aimed at enhancing economic efficiency in the mining sector, while ensuring environmental protection and social responsibility in accordance with local and international legislation.

He emphasized AzerGold’s successful cooperation with foreign partners and shared the company’s plans to expand its operations beyond Azerbaijan. Africa, with its rich mineral resources, was identified as a key area of focus.

Minister Carlos Pinto Pereira expressed interest in strengthening bilateral relations and highlighted current opportunities in the mining sector for investors.

Minister Viriato Cassamá noted that Guinea-Bissau’s mining industry is still in its early stages of development and expressed interest in leveraging AzerGold’s experience. He mentioned that the latest geological map of Guinea-Bissau, created by specialists from the former USSR in the 1970s, underscored the need for modern research methods to identify promising areas.

Considering AzerGold’s expertise in innovative geological research and development, the parties discussed potential cooperation. They agreed that AzerGold would assess promising areas in Guinea-Bissau. This would involve mapping, hyperspectral satellite imaging—a non-invasive research method—and data analysis, along with preliminary geological exploration work.

It was also noted that AzerGold is prepared to evaluate opportunities for the exploitation of discovered gold mines in the future, leveraging its experience in this field.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Non-Disclosure Agreement was signed between Zakir Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Executive Board of AzerGold CJSC, and Viriato Cassamá, Minister of Environment, Biodiversity, and Climate Action of Guinea-Bissau.
