Macron brought France to deep crisis: Russian Duma speaker

French President Emmanuel Macron has failed to maintain power and has dragged his once prosperous country into a deep crisis, a senior Russian lawmaker stated, AzVision.az reports, citing TASS.

"Macron’s attempt to retain power at any cost has failed. The current French president has brought the once prosperous country to a severe political and economic crisis," State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.

For the first time ever, the French government has collapsed just three months into its term, Volodin stressed.

"By allowing Biden to drag himself into the war in Ukraine and then attempting to lead the group of its supporters among European Union allies, Macron has ultimately lost the confidence of his own people," Volodin argued. "French citizens understand what such policies can lead to. The era of Macron, Biden, and their ilk must come to an end," the speaker concluded.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly, or the lower house of the French parliament, voted on a motion of no-confidence against the government of Michel Barnier following his controversial decision to sidestep a parliamentary vote on next year’s social security budget.

The motion received support from 331 lawmakers. The French prime minister will now have to resign. The Barnier-led government has served a term of just 90 days, the shortest in the history of the French Republic.
