Azerbaijan and Türkiye strengthen ties through interparliamentary talks

As part of her official visit to Ankara, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament, met with Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

The meeting began with one-on-one talks focusing on the high-level relations between the two fraternal countries and their parliaments, followed by an expanded session with the participation of both countries' delegations.

Highlighting the strong ties between the two nations, Numan Kurtulmuş noted that the signing of the Shusha Declaration marked the beginning of a new stage in solidifying relations.

Recalling the snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan on September 1, Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that it was the first time in independent Azerbaijan’s history that elections were conducted across the entire sovereign territory of the country. Gafarova also commended her first official visit to brotherly Türkiye, which has already become a wonderful tradition.

Emphasizing the friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which are successfully developing under the motto "One nation, two states," the Speaker highlighted the shared stance and mutual support between the two countries. Sahiba Gafarova described the relations, as well as the unity and solidarity of the peoples with a shared history, language, and religion, as of greatest value.

During the meeting, the sides noted the exceptional role of the heads of state in reaching this level of relations, emphasizing that their personal friendship and brotherhood, political will, and determination have ensured the current high level of bonds. They hailed the unity and solidarity in interparliamentary collaboration to further enhance fraternal relations between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed the issues related to enhancing collaboration between the parliaments, friendship groups, and parliamentary committees.

Following the meeting, a ceremony welcoming Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, was held in the plenary session hall of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

Furthermore, the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation visited the areas of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye damaged during the attempted coup d'état on July 15, 2016.
