“After Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity in 2023, our country began to be subjected to groundless pressure by the U.S. The US put forward amendment 907 in order to punish Azerbaijan. The Biden administration wanted to punish us by depriving Azerbaijan of the aid,” said Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the briefing following the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Maka Botchorishvili.
Minister Bayramov noted that USAID had rendered assistance to Azerbaijan for the interest of the US.
“Therefore, we demanded the termination of agreements with the United States and the suspension of USAID projects. On the other hand, they were against that. That is why we have sent our written proposal to the US side and the discussions have taken place,” he noted.
“We have once again witnessed that the USAID’s assistance is not well-intentioned. Therefore, starting from June 1, 2024, the activity of the USAID, which has taken biased, unhealthy political stance against Azerbaijan, has been suspended de jure in the country,” FM Bayramov added.
